Happy 31st Anniversary

Three Decades of Progress
December 2018 marks the 31st year of operation for the Cam Clark Automotive Group.
Thank you for taking the time to read this magazine highlighting some of our major
accomplishments over the last three decades. It is an exciting journey that began back
in 1987 in a small city dealership with 12 employees. That small city of Airdrie has
more than tripled in population growth and we too have grown into a large, successful
regional automotive group spreading across 2 provinces. Our dealerships have won
numerous awards over the past 30 years, too many to list. Our stores consistently
qualify for and achieve the most prestigious of these service awards, the President's
Award. This is the highest honour Ford Canada presents on an annual basis. Our Airdrie
location has won this award 24 times. Most recently, Cam Clark Ford won a newly
created award during the 2018 Airdrie Business Awards. We were named the Legacy
Business Award Winner. As described on the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce website,
this award is "awarded to a business that is independently owned and operated, has
been in Airdrie for at least 15 years, has shown sustained growth and contributions to
local employment. This business has invested in the community and sees community
investment as a core part of the company's values."
In this magazine you will read about what makes Cam Clark Ford unique. Why our staff
and customers love working with us. You will also read about what makes us a catalyst
in the automotive industry. The articles enclosed are focused on the following topics,
which include:
• 4 Generations of Service and Growth
• Growth provides further knowledge and opportunity
• Fully Certified makes a difference in Collision Repair
• Impact through Community Engagement
• Partnership develops future automotive experts
• Why our staff stay so long
I would also like to take the opportunity to thank our vendors who supported the
creation of this magazine. Without your contribution in the form of advertisements,
this magazine would not have been possible. We are grateful to you and appreciate our
unique relationships with each of you.
From our family to yours, thank you for enabling Cam Clark Automotive Group to be who
we have grown to be today. Without
our valued community both internally
and externally we would not have the
vast reach in Western Canada we are so
fortunate to have.
Sincerely,

Blake Clark
President, Alberta Region
Cam Clark Automotive Group
Our Business; Our History
Friendly. Fun. Professional. We're all about providing the best deal, outstanding service, and year-round peace of mind. We have been the winner of the Ford Canada President's Award for 24 years, and we have also been voted Top Dealership in Airdrie for nine years.
Our customers sometimes pass six other Ford stores on their way to do business with us. Truly anyone can buy a car anywhere, but our customers choose to do business with us because of the established relationships and the exceptional
experience they receive from us. Once you buy a vehicle with Cam Clark Ford, there is no need to go anywhere else. You have become a member of the Cam Clark Ford family. Along with new and used sales, Cam Clark Ford offers
Quick Lane services for smaller maintenance needs; a Parts Department for all your part needs; a Detail Department to keep your car sparkling clean and like brand new; a Service Lane for bigger vehicle warranty and maintenance fixes; a
Finance Department; and a Body Shop for those unexpected accidents that happen from time to time.
You will find a variety of personalities at Cam Clark Ford, and because of this, there is usually someone here that fits with any customer. It is the variety of personalities that enhance the experience for our customer, and our customers like that. If you ask our staff what it is that makes our business unique, the answers follow a similar theme. The work environment is friendly, we are all part of a big family who genuinely care about one another, and we are empowered to make a difference. Quarterly town halls keep our staff informed about what has happened and what is coming up, and are also a platform to recognize a job well done by staff.
The sense of family is one of the biggest differences that makes Cam Clark Ford unique. Not only is our main objective to be the industry leader in providing an outstanding customer experience, we also strive to offer an amazing
employee experience as well!
Cam Clark Ford has been a family owned and operated business since 1987. But did you know, the Clark family history in the automotive industry had its beginnings well before 1987? The current dealership in Airdrie is now managed by the 4th generation of automotive industry experts. And it has always been blue, Ford blue.
We may have a big beautiful dealership with all the latest technology, but we've always maintained our small town values and community focus. First and foremost, we are a family business. All those who come into our business are
family here too.
Our staff are all empowered to take care of the customer and each other. If we see something that needs to be fixed or someone who needs help, whether it is a customer or colleague, we all have the tools to make that happen to ensure a positive experience.
Established in 1987, Cam Clark Ford Airdrie has grown to become a premier auto dealer in the Southern Alberta region. Throughout our tenure, we have strived to include the best possible customer service, with top-notch repair and maintenance work and comprehensive new and used car, truck, minivan and SUV inventories. Cam Clark Ford Airdrie was opened in December 1987, with 12 staff members. Fastforward to 2018 and our main dealership in Airdrie is now home to 150 staff. Over the years, Cam Clark Ford Airdrie has grown in its current location, as we now offer a stateof- the-art showroom, Parts & Service Centre, a fully-certified Body Shop / Collision Repair Centre, and a Quick Lane.
The Cam Clark Automotive Group has expanded geographically since its original beginnings. We have two locations in Airdrie, our main dealership and our used car Super Store. We have Ford stores in Olds, Red Deer, Canmore, North Vancouver and Richmond. We have a Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram store in Innisfail. As of March 2018, we now serve customers in Kamloops with a new group of stores carrying Ford, Lincoln, Kia and Mazda products. We are incredibly excited to welcome the staff of Kamloops Ford Lincoln, Ford, Kamloops Kia and Kamloops Mazda to the Cam Clark Automotive Group family. These new stores will add to our already vast knowledge, experience and opportunity in the automotive industry. We are incredibly excited about the potential growth this creates for our bright future. On top of expanding our locations, we have also taken the time this year to improve one of our locations, Canmore. If you are looking for a reason to head to the mountains this time of year, we have one more reason to add. Our Canmore store recently moved across the street to a brand new stunning location with the picturesque Three Sisters as the back drop. You must stop by and say hello the next time you are passing through Canmore. It truly is stunning and our staff would be happy to welcome you, anytime!
As new model vehicles are being introduced using light weight high strength materials and advanced technology, a proper repair according to manufacturer specification is even more important than ever to ensure passenger safety and proper performance of the vehicle. Auto manufacturers encourage consumers to find a Certified collision repair centre when they are in need. Unfortunatly, less than 5 percent of body shops across the nation are able to meet the stringent requirements to become officially certified and recognized. Here at Cam Clark Ford, we have gone to great lengths and cost to be certain we are the best repair provider for all customer repairs. Over the past year we have worked diligently to become the ONLY Certified Collision Care shop in Airdrie. We have also completed all requirements for the Canadian Collision Industry Accreditation Program. With that, we are the only aluminum accredited repair facility in Airdrie. We are also one of only five in the Calgary area Certified for structural and aluminum repair, a certification officially provided by Certified Collision Care. Certified Collision Care is a non-profit advocacy organization for
maintaining the right tools, equipment, training and facility necessary to repair the participating automaker brand vehicles according to the manufacturer's specifications. This certification lets our customers know they are dealing with highly trained professionals who care about each customer and will assure their vehicle is repaired right, ensuring its safety and performance.
The next time you are in need of body work due to those unfortunate accidents that happen time to time, keep us in mind. Instead of being directed by your insurance company to one of the franchise body shop centres, direct your insurance group to us. You have the right to advocate where you want your vehicle repaired. Cam Clark Ford Body Shop is here for you. We will keep you informed every step of the way. And, you will have the peace of mind that a fully Certified shop and technicians are doing everything in their power to restore your broken vehicle back to its original state.
Giving back to the community is very important to Cam Clark Automotive Group. We have been supporting local community organizations and events for over 30 years. We want to make a difference and we are passionate about the communities we live and work in. When considering opportunities to support the community, we look for events and activities where we can engage our staff. We encourage our staff to give of their time. We encourage our staff to volunteer whenever possible and we support our staff by providing them with 1 paid day off per year to volunteer for an organization of their choice. Here are some of the highlights of our community support for 2018:
AIRDRIE: In 2018 Airdrie will have contributed over $50,000 to over 65 organizations and events. Some of our major sponsorships have included the Airdrie Boys and Girls Club, Airdrie Chamber of Commerce, the Airdrie Rotary Festival of Performing Arts, Airdrie Children's Festival, AirdrieFest, the Airdrie Pro Rodeo, 2018 Santa Clause Parade and the Airdrie Festival of Lights. Our store also has a unique set up which allows us to open our doors to local charitable organizations and small businesses who are looking for meeting space. Our Community Room is free to use and is used pretty much daily. It is an ideal central location in Airdrie for groups to meet and can be set up to accommodate multiple meeting formats.
CANMORE: We are very active in our community and are proud of the events we have supported to date which include; The Canmore Folk Festival, The Highland Games, The Banff / Canmore Community Foundation, The Canmore Improv Festival, RMVC Volleyball Club and The Bow Valley Christmas Toy Drive. Our brand new location now includes a Community Room which is almost ready to welcome local charitable organizations as well as small businesses who are looking for a free meeting space.
INNISFAIL: We were the 1st non-Ford dealership built by Cam Clark Automotive Group in 2015. Since opening we have been avid supporters of Innisfail Rotary Club and active with the Chamber of Commerce. We have sponsored the Kinsmen Auto show, Chamber of Commerce Trade show, and we are proud sponsors of Ram Rodeo at Daines Ranch. We have purchased four prize-winning steers in support of our local 4H Club and we purchase safety kits for the Innisfail Elementary school annually.
OLDS: We have contributed over $20,000 to 30 different organizations this year. Some of our major sponsorships are the Rotary Club from which our senior sales consultant, Wayne Burgess, will also be the incoming president this coming July. We have committed to volunteering for Breakfast for Learners every month, we are also partnered with the Olds College, the Boys & Girls Club, we have a very symbiotic relationship with the Olds Agricultural Society, the Olds High School Awards, the Food Bank with the Deer Meadow School and our very own Olds Grizzly's hockey team. We have a complimentary community room open to the community as well.
RED DEER: We are honoured to support many organizations on annual basis. Over the year we have contributed over $50,000 to local charities within our community. Our major sponsorships within our community this year include; C.A.W.S- Central Alberta Women's Shelter, Red Deer Public School Board, Red Deer Catholic School Board, Ronald McDonald House, Red Deer Minor Hockey, Red Deer Regional Hospital, Red Deer City Soccer Association and Red Deer College.
Providing an Authentic Customer Experience
What sets us apart from other repair facilities is that we empower our teams and promote autonomy, in turn creating an entire team that cares about the customer -- not just a department manager who tells them what to do, how to feel or how to act with customers. Their interactions are authentic and genuine, because they care. We provide our team with a unique employee experience. By celebrating small wins, hosting creative events such as Christmas in August, encouraging individuals to be themselves, and supporting them through the good & challenging times, we create employees that are advocates -- not only for the department they work for or manager they report to, but for the business as a whole. We take care of them first. As we grow, we ensure our own are cared for before hiring. We don't just hire a number. Just because you have more people within the four walls of a building, doesn't make you the best. How your employees experience their time with you does. Our customers return based on their experience with us. We are continuously reviewing the way we do business, how our customers are seeing us, experiencing us and what we can do better. We involve our teams in the entire process by giving them a voice in the overall customer process and experience. Our best ideas have come from team members sharing an idea or reliving a consumer experience where their business was valued and appreciated. Striving to be the best place to work and do business means we have to do things differently. If your team is not engaged, they will not engage your customers.
In the late 1990s, teacher Dennis Firth saw a need for Rocky View School students to have a more in-depth learning opportunity in the field of mechanics. Firth's innovative thinking soon led to Rocky View Schools (RVS) and Cam Clark Ford forging a relationship that has lasted 19 years. During that time, the number of students who are able to take part in this program has increased and the experiences they take part in have become richer and more meaningful. Tom van Wieringen, a Cam Clark Ford Technician, has been involved in the program for the last eleven years and hasfostered this growth first hand. Van Wieringen shared that in the earlier days of the program, students only worked on "dummy cars." But their learning opportunities deepened because they now have a customer base to work with that provides a variety of vehicles and challenges. As a result of this growth, Rocky View Schools' mechanic students are provided opportunities to develop authentic communication skills, critical thinking and problem solving skills first hand.
Today, the Rocky View Schools' Mechanics Program is housed in a fully equipped four bay shop in the North East corner of the Cam Clark Ford Dealership in Airdrie AB. Alongside the shop you will find a classroom, complete with student desks, a computer lab and a traditional lecture space. In this environment, Rocky View students receive instruction that reflects the Mechanics grades 10, 11 and 12 theoretical curriculum. Adjacent to both the classroom and the shop, the Mechanics Program administrative office, where both customer bookings and student attendance is reported, can be found. This is where much of the day-to-day administrative organization takes place and is also where parents and customers alike can connect with RVS staff to have questions about the program and its public services answered. Very few partnerships like this exist.
Currently, RVS Mechanics students are comprised of interested grade 10, 11, and 12 students from Airdrie and surrounding high schools. Small class sizes make the program competitive, yet inclusive. With the support of Cam Clark Fords' Technician, Tom van Wieringen, and Rocky View Schools' teacher and Licensed Mechanic, Stephen Teasdale, students are privy to over 50 years of combined knowledge and experience in the mechanics and automotive industry. Because of the partnership between Cam Clark Ford and Rocky View Schools, students are exposed to authentic hands on learning opportunities that very few people are afforded. Keeping with the need for students to be technologically literate, trade related theory, knowledge and information is delivered in part using current online platforms. These are practiced with the support of both the classroom teacher, Mr. Teasdale, and the Mechanics' Program support staff, Melanie Gilliland. Once students have clearly demonstrated competence in this part of their learning journey, they are able to enter the four bay mechanic shop area where the application of their knowledge comes to life.
When Rocky View students attend the Mechanic's Training Center at Cam Clark Ford for the first time, they very quicklylearn the expansive nature of the mechanics trade. Students are introduced to and given the chance to explore specialized areas within the mechanics trade. This includes automotive glass, auto-body repair, tire and lube shops, parts salvaging, antique restorations, custom builds, heavy duty and small engine repair. With time, students begin to formulate their own understandings about the mechanics trade and reflect on their personal growth as learners. While all program stakeholders understand not every student will choose to continue in the mechanics trade postsecondary,
it is also understood that all students who take part in the RVS Mechanics Training Centre at Cam Clark Ford in Airdrie, leave the program at the end of its term with a solid understanding of their own vehicles along with a much stronger foundation and deeper understanding of the mechanics trade.
